About OffWorld Percussion :

OffWorld was founded in the spring of 2008 by northwest percussionist David Lauder and engineer Paul J. Howard as a vehicle to present their advanced percussion implements to drummers worldwide.

The origins of Offworld began with pursuits in the early nineties to create drum practice pads that were altogether diverse from the standard fare. David Lauder with the help of his friend, the late Jeffrey C. Olson, engineered some of the first prototypes. Created in Springfield, Or. these were aimed specifically towards the use by the members of the University of Oregon Drumline. These included the infamous ’ÄúBacon’Äù, a device comprised of 4 separate, interlocking sections or planks, inlayed with numerous gum rubber elements per plank. The device could be unfolded and placed down the length of a tour bus, during travel to benefit the combined use of multiple percussionists. One of the first designs implementing a ’Äúrim’Äù like component was a 6’Äù gum rubber pad, modified and retrofitted with purpleheart hardwood outer staves. These were placed at a slight rise over the existing playing surface to create a rimshot effect when struck (incidently, this unit could be spotted as mounted into the steering column of Dave’Äôs VW bus for many years.)

From these early designs emerged further concepts, refinements and later creations, championed by gifted musician/engineer and OffWorld co-founder Paul Howard, that have led towards the production of the distinctive and other-worldly percussion implements we offer today. Our goal is simply to create some of the most innovative and highest quality products found anywhere on earth.http://www.wallysmusic.com/david.htmhttp://www.minustidejewelry.com/Saratoga_Park_Music.htmlshapeimage_3_link_0shapeimage_3_link_1
